XPrag.de at ESSLLI 2016

There are several contributions by XPrag.de members at the 28th European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information (ESSLLI 2016) to be held in Bolzano-Bozen, 15-26 August, 2016.

During the first week, Gerhard Jäger and Judith Degen from project “ProComPrag” will teach courses each. Judith Degen will give a course on “Corpus Methods for Research in Pragmatics”. Gerhard Jäger will give a course on “Computational Historical Linguistics”.

In addition there will be two talks by XPrag.de members at the satellite workshop “Referential Semantics One Step Further: Incorporating Insights from Conceptual and Distributional Approaches to Meaning”. On Monday August 22nd at 11.20 – 11.40, XPrag.de Junior Fellow Barbara Tomaszwicz (project “InfoPer”) will give a talk together with Alexandra Spalek (Oslo) on “Coercion in Polish versus English: processing complex lexical content”. On Wednesday August 24th at 11.25 – 11.55, XPrag.de associate Stephanie Solt (ZAS Berlin) will talk on “Degree and Quantity – Semantics and Conceptual Representation.
Barbara Tomaszewicz will give a further talk at the satellite workshop on “Formal, Probabilistic and Typological Approaches to Discourse Particles and Modal Adverbs”. On Tuesday August 23rd at 17.30 – 18.00 she will talk together with Katja Jasinskaja (Cologne) on “Dissociating the scalarity and additivity of EVEN – the case of ‘čak’ and ‘čak i’ in BCS”.

Furthermore, on Monday August 15th at 15:50, XPrag.de associate Anna-Christina Boell will give a talk at the Student Session at ESSLLI 2016 (StuS 2016) on “Empirical and Corpus-based Insights on the Exhaustivity Effect of Focus-Particles in German it-Clefts”.
And, Swantje Tönnis from project “ExCl” will present a poster together with Lea Marie Fricke and Alexander Schreiber on August 23rd about “Argument Asymmetry in German Cleft Sentences”.
