Internships in our projects available

XPrag.de offers an Internship program for international doctoral students and early postdocs (up to three years past the Ph.D.) to join an XPrag.de project for periods of up to three months. This year’s application deadline is September 1st, 2017!

Applicants must choose a suitable host for the time of the internship in advance. Any PI of a current XPrag.de project in Germany is eligible to act as supervisor. Beyond meeting with the supervisor on a regular basis successful candidates will be offered additional support in the form of adequate workspace and access to equipment as well as funding for experiments. XPrag.de will fund the travel of the intern to and from Germany up to 1500€ and a stipend of monthly 1000€.

Requirements:

Please submit a 2-page (maximum) personal statement including an outline of your ideas for the internship. Additionally, please provide your CV, sample writings, and two letters: one letter of commitment of the potential hosting institution in which the host commits to provide adequate workspace. In a second letter the potential supervisor needs to affirm that s/he will act as supervisor and hold at least weekly meetings with the intern and that s/he will provide access to equipment and funding for experiments.

Applications are evaluated and ranked by the steering committee of XPrag.de with respect to the following criteria: scientific quality, thematic matching of the proposal to the host project as well as diversity matters.

First Italian conference on Experimental Pragmatics this weekend!

This weekend (June 10/11), the first Italian conference on Experimental Pragmatics “XPRAG.it – Behavioral and Neural Evidence on Pragmatic Processing” organized by XPrag.de associate Filippo Domaneschi from project EXPRESS together with Valentina Bambini (IUSS) will take place in Genoa. Talk by XPrag.de member Pia Knoeferle at “Treffpunkt Sprache”!

On May 16th, Pia Knoeferle, Prinicipal Investigator from project “FoTeRo” will give a talk on situated language processing at “Treffpunkt Sprache”. In this lecture series, current topics of interdisciplinary interest around language and their investigation are presented. W1/W2 Professorship in Experimental Pragmatics at Bielefeld University available!

The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University seeks to fill by October 1st 2017 the following position:

Professorship (either W1 with tenure track or W2) for Experimental Pragmatics

The successful candidate must be internationally well established in the field of experimental pragmatics, and be able to demonstrate relevant research and teaching experience.

Publications are expected that correspond to the denomination of the professorship and demonstrate competence in the following fields:

(a) pragmatic and semantic theories;
(b) methods of data collection, evaluation and modelling.

Desirable is expertise in the following areas:

(a) research on dialogue structures;
(b) human-computer interaction;
(c) research on spontaneous interactions.

Willingness to cooperate with the other areas of linguistics in Bielefeld is expected. Participation in existing (e.g., excellence cluster in cognitive interaction technology, CITEC) and planned interdisciplinary research projects on dialogue structures is also expected.

The applicant will undertake teaching responsibilities within the BA and MA programs of Linguistics and Clinical Linguistics.

The faculty considers gender equality of men and women as an important goal, and expects the successful candidate to contribute to the work towards it.

If the position will be filled as a W1 professorship, the successful candidate will be first appointed for three years with the possibility of an extension for further three years, upon positive evaluation. Upon a final evaluation in the last year, the position can be tenured in a permanent W2 professorship. Depending on the appropriate qualifications of the candidate, the position can also directly be filled as a permanent W2 professorship.

A necessary requirement is a completed university degree, teaching experience, a doctoral degree, and, in case of a direct appointment as a W2 professorship, additional scientific contributions, the appropriateness of which will wholly and exclusively be judged by the search committee (cf. § 36 HG). Applications from abroad are welcome. Applicants for which German is not a first language should be able to hold lectures in German withinn reasonable time – in addition to lectures in English.
